I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas season as well as a safe, happy and prosperous New Year! We had a crowded dinner table at Christmas with a dozen friends and family and, I can assure you, there was plenty of good food, laughter and love to be shared with all! That's definitely what makes this time of year so special!
Our wonderful Sara will be going back to Switerzland on the 13th of January so I am glad we were able to spend Christmas and New Year with her before she departs. She will be missed so much by everyone here as well as the animals. I would like to thank Sara so much for all her hard work, dedication and loyalty, and hope that her dream of coming back for school in 2011 will come true. I wish with all my heart that if this is her dream she will get to follow it. It is hard for me to put into words how much I will (and we will) miss her.
There is more news to come shortly, but don't hesitate to give us a call, send an email or drop us a note on our Facebook fan page! It's always fantastic to hear from our friends! :)

Yo Dude Where's The Ranch?
.
If you were to ask ten people what a Dude Ranch is you'd get a few different answers, but I bet a fair few answers would refer to cattle driving... and I blame Billy Crystal for that (just kidding!).
More and more people relate Dude Ranches with cattle driving and I think that has a lot to do with Hollywood but, in fact, a Dude Ranch doesn't have to have anything to do with cows. A Dude Ranch is pretty much any Ranch that offers accommodations for guests.
So yes, Dreamscape Ranch fits nicely into that definition... Guest Ranch, Horse Ranch, Dude Ranch... it's all the same kind of thing.
That's a lotta Ranch... dude! ;-)

Dreamscape Ranch provides our guests with a wonderful Ranch experience, combining the hospitality of a Guest Ranch with Horseback Riding, full Horse Boarding services and Horse Rehabilitation, all situated in the beauty of rolling grasslands just outside of Kamloops in the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia (B.C.) Horse Rehabilitation News from Dreamscape Ranch
.
"Tego" is a very handsome bay gelding (and a PMU rescue horse) who came to us with a puncture wound that nicked his tendon sheath which became infected. He has been on rest and recouperation since June to allow him to heal.
A slow but steady increase in his excercise begain in mid-September, and we're happy to say that Tego has responded very well. We began with simple in-hand walking each day, then progressed to a few minutes of bare-back riding at the walk each day, and then light riding began in the beginning of August.
The photo shows Isabelle working Tego at the trot... and doesn't he look good!

Dreamscape Ranch is much more that a Horse Ranch. We provide quality full Horse Boarding services including Horse Rehabilitation as well as the perfect environment to board your retired 'senior' horse. We are located in the beautiful grasslands just south of Kamloops in the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia (B.C.) Canada.

Hay Shed Progress
.
![]()
Okay, it's official... despite the nice weather and blue skies we have finally admitted that summer is over. After all, it's mid-October and the temperature has been below zero the last couple of nights. Having said that, we've been taking advantage of the weather and are getting our new hay shed ready prior to any bad winter weather setting in.

So far there has only been one little set-back with the construction as we needed to bring in a truck with a crane get the trusses up high enough but, as you can see from the photo, it's looking very good and there will be room for plenty of hay to be stored safely out of the reach of any rain or snow... and that's a good thing because we just had round bales delivered!

Knut Cup 2010... Here We Come!
.
October is officially here, the NHL hockey season is underway, and excitement for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver/Whistler is starting to gain momentum... so what does all of that mean?
It means it's time to start thinking about something that is really important... like Dreamscape Ranch defending our "Knut Cup Champion" title!
The "Knut Cup" is a very friendly community-based hockey tournament that is held on a nearby frozen lake each winter.
We're proud to say that Dreamscape's team of swift-skating hockey heroes brought home the Cup to the Ranch last winter where it has been proudly on display since that time. And now, we look to defend our Championship title and proudly display the esteemed "Knut Cup" for a second year in a row!
Getting Ready For a New Member On The 'Team'...
Nicole and J.P. help organize the "Knut Cup" hockey tournament each year, and we'd like to wish them ALL THE BEST as their are due to have their first baby in just a couple of weeks time!!! :)

The Gals Go Riding, The Guys Go Fishing
.
While we obviously promote the Horse Ranch aspect of what we're about, it's also worth pointing out that our location (about a half-hour south of Kamloops) makes Dreamscape Ranch an excellent 'home base' for those who are interested in exploring other adventures in this part of the Thompson Okanagan region.
Of particular note, there's a lot of excellent lake fishing in these parts, so if the 'gals' are more interested in horseback riding that doesn't mean the 'guys' can't venture off for the day and try their luck fishing the local lakes.
Just a thought! :)

2nd Anniversary Celebration at Dreamscape!
.

This week we were very happy to welcome back Helen and Pete who came back to the Ranch for a couple of days to celebrate their 2nd Wedding Anniversary which was on Tuesday the 15th.
It was just two short years ago that that Helen and Pete were married here at the Ranch, outside on the lawn with the view of the valley as the backdrop. Later we had a buffet dinner and live entertainment. It was a great day and full of wonderful memories!
Thanks again to Helen and Pete for coming back to visit and we hope that this may become a bit of a tradition! :)

Horse For Sale - "Snicker" - 2005 Registered Quarter Horse Mare
.
"SNICKER" is a 2005 registered Quarter Horse mare. Exceptional conformation and extraordinary breeding. A pony in height (14-1 hh) but a 'horse' in so many ways.
90 days training with Lee Poncelet, recent reining classes, very willing over jumps and recently in jumping clinic with Bill Ulmer, and ridden regularly over past year. This is an amazing filly who will excell in any discipline and take you anywhere you want to go.
Snicker would make a great pony club horse and can go English and Western equally well. There is more training in her than her price reflects.
Please contact Lea at Dreamscape Ranch directly for additional information and price.

Horse Rehabilitation News from Dreamscape Ranch
.
There is excellent Horse Rehabilitation news to report!
At Dreamscape we are ready, willing and able to bring in different types of equine care-givers if that's what the horse needs so, with that in mind, we recently had a return visit from Britt Mills to look at some of our rehabilitation 'patients'. Britt is a veterinarian here in the Okanagan that specializes in acupuncture, chiropractic and holistic medicine, and she has worked on some of my horses and some of the Board horses in the past, and they always benefit from her excellent attention and treatment.
"Dee" is a horse that arrived recently that seems to have very sensitive/sore feet... but is this the real issue or is it just the noticeable reaction to a problem that begins somewhere else? Britt found some definite alignment issues with Dee's neck, back and hips and also the possibility of selenium deficiency. After treatment, Dee has improved noticeably so we are going to continue to work with Britt as to improve Dee's quality of life.
"Vicky" is a Thoroughbred yearling that suffered a nasty leg injury, and was brought to the Ranch to heal. With the oversight of local veterinarians and Dreamscape Ranch's tender-loving-care, it looks like Vicky may be ready to head home to complete the final stage of her successful recovery. And yes, she is every bit as sweet in real life as she looks in the video!!
"Tego" is another horse that was brought to us with a leg injury (back in the early springtime this year). This big bay gelding has sufficiently recovered to the point where he was allowed to go out on pasture with his buddies, so he was clearly a very happy boy... and that's just what we like to see! Of course we'll be keeping a close eye on him because we don't want him to experience any set-backs.

Dreamscape Ranch website just updated!
.
If you visit the Dreamscape Ranch website you will notice that a few changes have taken place recently... and of course the introduction of this 'blog' goes hand in hand with those updates.
As you can imagine, the ranch keeps us very busy as there are so many things to take care of with the acreage, horses, guests, students, etc., so finding the time and inclination to get involved with our internet presence is tough. Luckily we've got a friend who is helping us with the on-line marketing of the Ranch and we're happy to say that, even in these early stages, we've seen some great results.
We're quite excited about having updated information, new photos and even video on the website and blog, because it's such a great way to connect with people. We hope you enjoy them!
Keep coming back to the website and blog as the whole intention is to keep it fresh with regular updates so everyone can keep in the loop with life here on the ranch!

Look At This Girl Go!
.
Amber is a very special horse. She was orphaned when she was born, so we hand-raised here at Dreamscape Ranch. A lot of the credit for how well Amber has turned out must go to my International Students who did so much wonderful work in feeding her, caring for her and making sure she knew she was safe and secure.
That was a few short years ago, and today Amber is a beautiful and very powerful horse that has no security issues in the least... in fact... she's not afraid of anything.
On Monday September 8th, Sandra, Sara, Doris and I took Amber and "Snicker" down to a local ranch that will be hosting a jumping clinic this weekend, where we were met by Andrew and Jackie who took the video and photos. We already know that Snicker is a willing and capable jumper, but we thought that it would be interesting to see what Amber thought of it all - as she had never jumped before.
Well, as you can tell from the video of Tess taking Amber over the jumps, Amber certainly took to her first jumping experience with relish. Her first couple of attempts were a bit clunky but from that point onwards she knew exactly what to do, and how she wanted to do it.
We're so proud of her!

Horse For Sale - Dramatic Dreamer - 2007 Registered Thoroughbred
.
"Dramatic Dreamer" is a 2007 Registered Thoroughbred filly that was born and raised here at Dreamscape Ranch, and she really must be seen to be fully appreciated. She has excellent conformation, wonderful movement, and the breeding of a champion.
This video was shot September 6, 2009 and features only the 7th time "D.D." has been ridden under saddle. Despite the video being shot in gusty winds, with thunder in the distance and with a number of other horses turned out nearby, the video shows "D.D." remaining very quiet, paying full attention to her handler and rider, and responding to her instruction without hesitation.
Please contact Lea at Dreamscape Ranch directly for additional information and price.

Busy Labor Day Weekend at Dreamscape Ranch!
.
It was definitely a busy time at Dreamscape Ranch this weekend with some new guests (Ryan, Sibylle and Jonas), some repeat guests (Andrew and Jackie), and some good friends who came to visit (Gina, Dennis, Janice, Tony and Cheryl).
The weather wasn't great on Saturday but Sibylle, Jackie, Gina, Sara and Sandra braved the cool temperatures and some rain to saddle-up and get a couple of hours worth of riding on the trails. While the girls were out on the trail, the guys held down 'the fort' and, as you can see from the photo, our new friend Jonas was well-prepared for any-and-all weather conditions and he seemed to enjoy himself very much. He was certainly a pleasure to have at the Ranch!
The weather did improve on Sunday so Jackie and Sara were able to spend some time riding some of our younger horses including "Snicker" and "D.D." - who happen to be two of our horses for sale - so we were able to get some good video footage of them to help in the marketing of these two wonderful critters. We should be adding the videos to the website and here on the blog soon... so keep checking back. :)
We have a new International Student that arrived this weekend from Switzerland, so we'd like to take this opportunity to welcome Doris as a new member of the Dreamscape Ranch "family". We trust that you'll have a good time here in beautiful Thompson Okanagan region of B.C.

We have a new International Student that arrived this weekend from Switzerland, so we'd like to take this opportunity to welcome Doris as a new member of the Dreamscape Ranch "family". We trust that you'll have a good time here in beautiful Thompson Okanagan region of B.C.

It Has Been A Long, Hot Summer
.
We're definitely in no hurry to see summer fade, but some cooler temperatures and rain would be welcome as it has been a long, hot summer.
There has been a stubborn forest fire near Pritchard and I can't help but wonder if Dreamscape Ranch will reprise it's role as a sanctuary for local animals just like in the summer of 2003 when the Strawberry Hill fire threatened ranches.
We accepted over 70 horses at the Ranch within a very short time - trailers were coming in non-stop between 9:00 at night and 4:00 in the morning. The precious cargo of horses were safe and sound here at Dreamscape and it was an absolute treat to have such a herd of beautiful animals to care for (in additional to our own wonderful equine mob).
Naturally it's quite a chore to water and feed that number of animals, and at some points we literally just pushed bales of hay down the slope and let gravity disperse the hay amongst our hungry guests. Yes, that was quite an experience, and we're proud to have been able to help.
We're definitely in no hurry to see summer fade, but some rain would be a good thing after such a long, hot, dry season!

Unexpected Dude Ranch Fun at Dreamscape
.
Expect the unexpected here at Dreamscape Ranch! When you have cattle that needs to be pushed to new grazing... and need it done pronto... who you gonna call? The "Dreamscape Cow Pushers"... that's who!
That very call came in on Sunday from a neighbor who needed to get his cattle moved to new pasture with ample water.
Our international students and I saddled up, got the job done, and enjoyed every minute of it! You could almost hear the theme song to "Rawhide" playing in the background! ;)

Welcome "Midnite" - a new Horse Rehabilitation guest
.
Here we go... our first Dreamscape Ranch blog update!!!
If you know anything about Dreamscape you'll know that horses are near and dear to our hearts - and part of what we do here is Horse Rehabilitation. We provide the ideal location and plenty of "TLC" for horses that need to rest and recuperate after an injury.
Now having said that, I'd like to welcome our new guest "Midnite" who has come for our special blend of loving care and restorative environment. Midnite is a 4 year old registered Paint mare who has had a neck injury and, luckily, the veterinarians feel that due to her young age, with rest and the right rehabilitation, she should recover nicely.
In conjunction with Midnite's owner (Andrea), the veterinarians, and our dear friend Ray Scott (local trainer and horse-whisperer), a gradual excercise program is being put in place to help Midnite recover from her injury and lead a healthy happy life.
Naturally we are going to be taking things slowly to make sure our new guest is feeling comfortable in her new "home away from home" and we'll send word of her progress through our new Blog in due course!
So "welcome" again to Midnite and Andrea!

.

.
Welcome to the Dreamscape Ranch blog, where you can keep up to date with the latest news and developments here on the ranch.
At Dreamscape we provide a wonderfully unique combination of Bed and Breakfast accommodation with a real Guest Ranch feel... due, in large part, to the fact that we're a horse ranch situated on 160 acres in the beautiful grasslands south of Kamloops in the Thompson Okanagan region of B.C. (British Columbia) Canada.
We're the perfect destination for families, couples or even small corporate groups, and we're within easy driving distance of the neighbouring communities of Salmon Arm, Oliver, Armstrong, Kelowna and Merritt.
Whether you're looking for a place to relax and unwind or even if you've got plenty of energy to burn, at Dreamscape we've got all your bases covered.
In addition to our Bed and Breakfast and Guest Ranch accommodations, Dreamscape also provides those of you with your own horses with Bed and Bale accomodation, full Horse Boarding, and Horse Rehabilitation services.
